17th September Gre Quants Question

1. What is the value of (-x)(-x)/(-x) =
A. lxl
B. -x

2. If (125)(75) = (3^m)(5^n), then
Col A: m
Col B: n

3. Given x, y & z are three positive integers greater than 1 and if x*y*z = 231, then what is the value of x + y + z = ?
A. 9
B. 15
C. 21
D. Cannot be determined.

4. If the probability of A shooting a target is 0.8 and probability of B shooting the same target is 0.7, then What is the probability that niether of them hite the target?

5. If x + y + z = 4 and -4z = 4, then what is the value of x + y - z = ?

6. If 'x' is a negative integer, then

Col B: x/4

7. If the point (1, 2) lie on the line mx+ky=3, then
Col A: k
Col B: 0

8. A triangle is given with sides x, y & z. If z = 1/4(perimeter) & x + y = 12 then find perimeter.

9. If (4/7) = (4+s)/(7+t), then

Col B: (4t/7)

10. If x(x-15/7)(x+4)(x+3) = 0, then what is the product of maximum and minimum value of x?

recheck ur 11th n 12th answers..
i think 11th is c n
12th is 30-u get quad eq w^2+15w-1350=0

2.B 125*75=5^3*5^2*3=5^5*3 =>m=1,n=5
3.21 231=33*7=11*3*7 x+y+z=21
4.0.06 1-(p(a)+p(b)-p(a)*p(b))=.06
5.6 z=-1,=>x+y=4+1=5 x+y-z=5+1=6
6.D as for all x<=-4 A is greater
-4<=x<0 B is greater

7.D m+2k=3,an equation with 2 unkwns k can be any real value.
8.16 x+y=12,x+y+z=4z => 3z=12 => z=4,
perimetr=12+4=16
9.C the ratio proportion formula!!!
10.-60/7 x=0,15/7,-4,-3 ans:15/7*-4=-60/7
11.B 12=10+2
taking power 12 on both sides. 12^12=(10+2)^12>10^12+2^12

12.150 1350=45*30, l n b difr by 15, perimtr=2(75)=150

The answer of the question 4 can be derived like :
(1-0.8)*(1-0.7) = 0.06
what u ppl think?

HI.
For the probability ques:
It can be done in two ways.

First:
1-[p(a)+p(b)-p(a)*p(b)] =
1- (0.8+0.7-0.56) = 1-0.94=0.06

Second:
You have rightly pointed
(1-0.8)(1-0.7) = 0.2*0.3 = 0.06

so duality in ans ....

HI dude..plz check the 7th que, if the point lie on the line means, we can find slope (m)=2/1=2.
so substitute m values and (1,2) u will get k as 0 so ans is C..

In que 7 ans should be A.
As y intercept is 3 hence cordinate is (0,3)
and another pt on a line is (1,2),if we pass this line through this you will get slope -1 and k value 1.
